How to Search in Notion

Notion is a powerful productivity tool that allows users to create and organize notes, tasks, projects, and databases. With its customizable interface and flexible structure, Notion can be used to manage almost any type of information. However, with so much content created and stored in Notion, finding specific information can be challenging. That’s where the search function comes in handy.

Searching in Notion is a quick and easy way to locate specific information within your workspace. Whether you’re looking for a specific page, task, or database entry, Notion’s search function can help you find it. By using keywords and filters, you can narrow down your search results and quickly locate the information you need. In this article, we will explore how to use Notion’s search function to find what you’re looking for.

Basic Search

To search for something in Notion, click on the “Search” button in the left-hand sidebar or use the shortcut “cmd/ctrl + P”. This will open the search bar at the top of your screen. Type in your search query and hit enter.

Notion will search through all of your pages and content to find matches for your search query. The search results will be displayed in a list format, with the most relevant results at the top. You can click on any of the search results to open that page or piece of content.

If you have a lot of search results, you can narrow them down by using filters. Click on the “Add filter” button to add filters based on properties, tags, and other criteria. This will help you find exactly what you’re looking for more quickly.

In addition, you can sort your search results by clicking on the “Sort” drop-down button. This will allow you to sort by relevance, creation date, last edited date, and more. Sorting your search results can help you find the most important information more quickly.

Advanced Search

Notion offers some more advanced search options to help you find what you are looking for more precisely and efficiently. Here are some of the advanced search features you can use:

  • Filters: You can use filters to narrow down your search results based on specific criteria. For example, you can filter by page type, creation date, last edited date, tags, and more. To apply filters, click on the “Filter” button next to the search bar, and select the criteria you want to filter by.

  • Sort by: You can sort your search results by relevance, date of creation, last edit, or other criteria. To sort your results, click on the “Sort” dropdown button underneath the search bar, and select the criteria you want to sort by.

  • Operators: You can use operators to create more complex search queries. For example, you can use the “AND” operator to search for pages that contain multiple keywords, or the “NOT” operator to exclude certain keywords from your search results. To use operators, type them in uppercase letters between your search terms.

  • Search within: You can search within a specific page or database by clicking on the “Search within” button next to the search bar, and selecting the page or database you want to search within.

  • Saved searches: You can save your search queries as a saved search, so you can quickly access them later. To save a search, click on the “Save” button next to the search bar, and give your search a name.

By using these advanced search features, you can quickly and easily find what you are looking for in Notion.
